Ukyo Kuonji

The Ninja Okonomiyaki Chef

Introducing Ukyo Kuonji, Ranma's fourth fiance!  This strong willed, no-nonsense okonomiyaki (Japanese pizza) chef doesn't take crap from anyone, not even from her darling Ranma.  But even though she's got attitude, and is a little tom-boyish (though not nearly as violent as Akane),Ukyo is also really sweet.

Ranma and Ukyo were childhood friends during the early years of Ranma and Genma's ten year training mission.  One day, Ukyo's father offered Genma his daughter's hand in marriage to Ranma.  Now at first Genma turned down his offer, since Ranma was already promised to one of Soun Tendo's three daughters.  But, when her father threw in his okonomiyaki cart as a dowry, Genma quickly agreed!  So the deal was that Genma would get the okonomiyaki cart, and in return he would take Ukyo with him when they continued their journey.  However, when the time came to leave, Genma ran off with Ranma and the okonomiyaki cart, but left poor Ukyo on the roadside!

Shamed and humiliated, from that day on Ukyo gave up on being a female and trained heard to become the best okonomiyaki chef in Japan, and possibly the world!  She swore to get revenge, but keep in mind that Ranma knew nothing of this....  Well, many years later, Genma is attacked by a mysterious person one afternoon, and Akane overhears the conversation between the two and it would seem that Genma has another child!  So of course Akane soon informs Ranma, but when they confront Genma, he refuses to talk about it, claiming that it is for Ranma's own good that he not say anything.

Well, the next day, a new student has just enrolled in Furinkan High named Ukyo Kuonji and happens to be in the same class as Ranma and Akane.  Ranma quickly remembers his old friend and happily greets her.  However, Ukyo isn't feeling quite as warm and challenges Ranma to a dual.  So after class,  the fight is held on a giant cooking surface.  Being a chef, Ukyo uses her famous giant spatula as well as various cooking ingredients as her attacks.

Now, Ranma doesn't understand why Ukyo would want to fight him since they had been best friends as children, so he was reluctant to attack at first.  But after taking some punishment from Ukyo, he finally gets fed up and attacks, and enraged he takes the fight out of the ring.  Then, during the confrontation, Ranma accidentally tears her shirt and she hurriedly tries to escape, but her and Ranma wind up falling through the roof of a supplies shed.

And it is there that Ranma discovers something about Ukyo that he hadn't known all this time... Ukyo's a girl!!  Yes, all this time he'd thought Ukyo was a guy!  Well, soon Akane and Genma, who had been watching the fight, arrive as well and Genma finally explains the whole story to them.  However, he claims that it's Ranma who made the decision to leave Ukyo and thus it's his fault (while Ranma was a child of only six, Genma asked him one day what he loved more, okonomiyaki or Ukyo, and Ranma chose okonomiyaki).

So Ranma feels partially responsible for what happened to Ukyo and agrees to take whatever punishment she could dish out.  Still furious, Ukyo was about to punish him more severely than expected, when suddenly Ranma tells her how cute she is.  Shocked, she doesn't believe him at first, though Ranma continue's to insist on how good-looking she really is.  Flattered, Ukyo forgives Ranma for everything that happened and decides to let bygones-be-bygones.  And it is then that Ukyo falls in love with Ranma... but of course Akane is jealous as usual (though she pretends not to care).

Ukyo is also quite intelligent, and has come up with several schemes in her time to get with Ranma, some of which required her to reluctantly team up with Shampoo.  But Ukyo and Shampoo are constant rivals rivals since they're both fervently chasing after the same guy.  Not only that, but they're both restaurant chefs, and let's just say having two cooks in the same kitchen will naturally cause some problems!
