Printing and Cursive Tip #1

Problem: Your child has had a lot of difficulty learning manuscript printing, and you're afraid she'll have similar difficulty with cursive.

Solution: "Don't delay!"

If your child has an IEP, make sure that one of her goals is that she be instructed one-on-one in cursive writing before it's begun in her classroom. Children who have difficulty learning to write don't learn it well in large-group instruction. If your child doesn't have an IEP, hire a tutor. Ideally, the tutor or teacher should start cursive instruction before it's begun in her classroom. The tutor should contact your child's classroom teacher and then teach the letters using the same letter formations that will be used in school, in the same order.
