Special Problems of Left-Handed Children

Finger-spacing is harder for left-handed than right-handed writers, because it's more awkward: their left hand has to cross over their right.

An alternative to using a finger is to use a tongue depressor. The child can place it between words instead of using a finger or two. (Don't let the child decorate the depressor as that can be very distracting. Get two from your pediatrician so she can play with one as she wishes.) If the tongue depressor works, get one for her to use at school.
