mach3cockpit page
This is the story of how I got my M.A.C.H. 3 cockpit. I already had a MACH 3 upright I put together from parts I collected from many different people. I had tried to buy 3 different one's on Ebay but my Dead Beet Webtv bidder messed up each one, but that's another story. I always thought the cockpit was a cool game being a Laser Disc game and the lens in front of the monitor making it look larger than a 19" monitor. I found a few possible MACH 3 cockpits but the main problem was not the cost of the game but the cost of shipping. Well, one came up for auction on Ebay and it was my buddy MrCulpy (see my dedicated Star Trek upright and Baby Pac-man page) who had went out of his way to make me happy with the two games I had got from him in the past. I was still worried that the Webtv bidder would screw around with this auction too, so I emailed Andrew to ask if he would end the auction early and sell it to me. He agreed because he had dealt with me before and new he could trust me. I was the high bidder when the auction was canceled. We struck a deal. $475.00 for the game, $75.00 to put it on 2 pallets and wrap in cardboard and plastic and also covered the cost to take it to the terminal. It was another $150.00 to ship from NJ to Virginia Beach where I went to pick it up. Here are 2 pic's I took at the shipping terminal after they loaded it on my truck. Total cost was $700.00 but I got a working game in great condition.
Thanks again Andrew, you did it again. :-)
The game plays fine in the fighter mode but had disc errors in the bomber mode. I believe the  Laser Disc player need's the optics cleaned. I haven't had time to get to it yet but If it turns out the player is bad I got a LaserAce on order and will install it with a LDP-1450 LD player and see what happens.
More to come soon but all for now
I finally got time to check out my game and found out the laser disc that came with the game had laser rot. I had bought a NOS disc for my up right MACH 3 so I put the old disc from that game in the cockpit LD player and fired it up. To my surprise the game now works in both fighter and bomber modes.

Here's a view of the back door of the MACH 3 cockpit. This cockpit is all original and complete. The serial number of the game matches the numbers on all the boards and the monitor. The only part I had to change was the  rotted laser disc.
It even has the original cardboard/foil RF shield surrounding the PC board set. I wish I had the one for my up right cabinet.
Now that my MACH 3 cockpit is working the only problem I have is where to put it so I can use it. The game room is to small and full and the garage is cluttered with so many projects theirs hardly room to walk. Those of you who have been collecting for a wile know what I am talking about and those who have just been bitten by the collecting bug will soon know :-)
Thats all for now.
