Analyzing Forces in Swimming with Aquanex

Aquanex is a computerized system for measuring forces in an aquatic environment.

In the photo above Aquanex Type A sensors are being used to measure hand forces during breaststroke. Aquanex can monitor forces, analyze performance, and document progress. Aquanex is particularly useful in identifying losses in force that are not visible to the coach. Note the characteristic loss in force just prior to the peak in the freestyle curves below.

Aquanex can provide meaningful data about the effective elements of a swimmer's technique, as well as about the factors that limit performance. The faster, more competitive swimmers generally have less obvious limiting factors in their technique. Aquanex is particularly useful for these swimmers, because even with a video analysis it is not possible to identify the decreases in hand speed that result in a loss of force.
