In 1986, Helen Moore prepared a report on the three nearby Peppertown cemeteries: the Old Public Cemetery, the German Lutheran Church Cemetery, and the New Cemetery. Helen Moore was a member of the Indiana State Board of the Indiana German Heritage Society. Her relatives came from Germany directly to Peppertown in 1849, and she has relatives buried in the Old Public Cemetery. This website is based on her report.
Names in the Old Cemetery of Peppertown listing are given in alphabetical order because graves are not in rows, and some of the information exists only in the St. Nicholas Lutheran Church records, records made by the Work Projects Administration (WPA) in the Franklin County Clerk's Office at Brookville, newspaper articles, and other Franklin County history sources. Some of the graves are located under the foundation of the Church, built in 1875. The other two cemeteries are just a mile down the road, the Germany Lutheran Church Cemetery on one side of Beacon Road, and the New Cemetary, established in 1937, on the other side.
