This how-to is for the shield I made for the Iceman Cold Air Intake. Since I live in NY, we get alot of rain so
I had to come up with a way to protect the filter from the water since the filter sits behind the front bumper
and it can get wet rather easily during the rain. I had it on the car for almost a year and I never had any problems
with excess water getting into my engine. Actually, when I took the filter out to clean, the part covered by the shield
looked as clean as the day I put the filter in. I was really surprised, I guess it really works =)
Ok, here is how I made the shield for my Iceman
(Sorry, I don't have any "real" pictures of the set up because it's currently on another car.
If I have the chance, I'll take some pictures.)
- First, get an empty washer fluid bottle.
- Next, cut half of the bottle (long way) and the top of the bottle (see left).
- Cut a couple of small holes on the underside of the shield to help drain water.
(thanks to Greg Schretter for this idea)
- Measure the filter elbow opening and cut a hole on the bottom of the bottle the same size.
- Slip the elbow into the hole
- Replace the filter onto the elbow.
- This will sandwich the shield between the filter and the elbow so it won't move.
- Put the filter assembly back onto the iceman tubing.
