Adventure Racing is a multi-sport, team competition. Disciplines include (but are not limited to) such skills as Mountain biking, kayaking, rafting, ascending, rappelling, tyrolean traverse, zip lines, cross country navigation, running, riding horses, mountaineering, other physical and mental challenges designed to test agility, strength, and teamwork. These disciplines may be encountered at any time during a race.
Races are grouped into three categories: sprint, multiday, and expedition length.
A sprint race may last from 2 - 6 (or more) hours. Some last 12 - 24 hours.
A multiday race is usually 2-3 days in length.
Expedition length races last anywhere from 5-10 days in length.
Races are generally non-stop. Sleep is a luxury and often an unwelcome necessity, taken at risk of being passed by competing teams.
