John 6:63 It is the Spirit which quickens, the flesh profits nothing: the words which I have spoken unto you are spirit and are life.
Words are alive and are spirit.
It is a standard part of the free will lie, spoken in the speech of sin that words are most certainly not alive but are non-living complex symbols that must be interpreted in context by you, (that-which-is-alive). That is, according to one speech, all words are defined by other words which have something called 'meaning' which must be understood according to the proximity and 'meaning' of the surrounding words, the world events that took place at the time of their writing, and the personal intelligence of the writer, sayer, reader or hearer.
Do you see that immediately, according to the lie of free will and the speech in which it is spoken, understanding is a tough business AND understanding is within the ultimate control of men. Words, according to this lie, are things over which men have ultimate control because men have free will. Immediately that speech has manipulated your heart to feel guilty about not understanding anything--because it says you can but haven't. As well, according to that same lie, life must use non-life in order to grow, prosper and reproduce. That is, life cannot get along without non-life. In the lie of free will and the speech in which it is spoken, understanding everything is well within your abilities as there is no opposition to understanding anything because all understanding is in words which are not alive. According to that same lie in that same speech the eternal life and safety of your soul is absolutely established by the choices you make based on understanding or the lack of it--which is also your choice.
Do you see that according to the free will lie, your eternal salvation is something over which you have absolute control? Further, according to that lie and the speech in which it is spoken, because you have absolute control over all words (the means used to empower you to make the correct 'choice') no words can create anything (if they do that violates your so-called 'choice')--everything must exist as it has in the past plus the efforts of self-willed understanding now. There can be an addition to understanding according to the free will lie, but there can never be new creation (there can never be that-which-never-existed-before). That is, no words can make you into anything else in reality according to the free will lie. Salvation is then, according to the free will lie the mere permanent perpetuation of you as you are now forever.
But God says this, not as informing you that you should do something with His words or in particular what you should do with His words but as spirit and as life:
John 3:3-8 Jesus answered and said to him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except any one be born anew he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus says to him, How can a man be born being old? can he enter a second time into the womb of his mother and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except any one be born of water and of Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not wonder that I said to thee, It is needful that ye should be born anew. The wind blows where it will, and thou hearest its voice, but knowest not whence it comes and where it goes: thus is every one that is born of the Spirit.
and
2 Cor 5:17 So if any one in Christ, a new creation; the old things have passed away; behold all things have become new:
and
James 1:18 According to his own will begat he us by the word of truth, that we should be a certain first-fruits of his creatures.
That is, in a different speech than sin and the free will lie, which can create nothing and so denies that any words can create, (a speech upon which the whole of fallen human intelligence is built), God says: You must be born anew.
God speaks, you are born anew as a new creation in Jesus Christ, that's it. God's Speech, His Word is powerful and is alive. He speaks a different speech than sin. He does not speak of deciding or of choice or of anything which you must do other than hear His Word. Those who heard His Word are spoken through by God to declare as spirit and life that they have been born again specifically by hearing the Word of God. ("..begat He us by the word of truth..." ).
Yet according to the speech of sin, a different speech than God's Word, no such thng as new creation can exist because all words are less powerful than you and all speech is the same. That is, the speech of sin denies the existence of the Word of God both functionally and directly as a word order and demonstrates itself to be not God and not God's Word in its powerlessness.
We have this as the Word of God:
Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light. And there was light.
and
Mat 8:2,3 And behold, a leper came up to [him] and did him homage, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou art able to cleanse me. And he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, I will; be cleansed. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
and
John 5:8,9 Jesus says to him, Arise, take up thy couch and walk. And immediately the man became well, and took up his couch and walked: and on that day was sabbath.
and
Mat 4:18-20 And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers; and he says to them, Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they, having left their trawl-nets, immediately followed him.
and
Mat 9:9 And Jesus, passing on thence, saw a man sitting at the tax-office, called Matthew, and says to him, Follow me. And he rose up and followed him.
Do you hear? God speaks. What He says immediately comes into being. Again:
John 20:27-29 Then he says to Thomas, Bring thy finger here and see my hands; and bring thy hand and put it into my side; and be not unbelieving, but believing. Thomas answered and said to him, My Lord and my God. Jesus says to him, Because thou hast seen me thou hast believed: blessed they who have not seen and have believed.
God speaks and creates, something a different speech than God's own --says-- is impossible by its own practice of speech and its own definition of what words are. That different speech is sin. Sin can create nothing and also --says-- that no words can create anything. Yet its --saying-- that no words can create anything is ineffective and is therefore a lie.
God's Word is then alive. It is also spirit and life to you, the new creation that was created by an act of His Speech. (Do not fall to the temptation to merely re-feel the amazement at this over and over but be moved in God by His Word, Jesus Christ.)
God says that His Word is alive as spirit and as life:
Heb 4:12 For the word of God [is] living and operative, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and penetrating to division of soul and spirit, both of joints and marrow, and a discerner of the thoughts and intents of [the] heart.
Because His Word is alive, the Holy Scriptures speak to you as spirit and as life, not as 'information'. Do you see? The lie of sin is that all words can only inform you what ought to take place. God's Word irresistibly does His will. God doesn't inform you that you ought to be born again, He births you by His act of Speech.
The Holy Scriptures are alive because they are God's word. The Holy Scripture is not a dead, life-less record of what was spoken long ago, but is part of God's living Speech. Directly then, you need as living food to partake of God's Word and read the Holy Scriptures listening attentively to what God will Speak to you and through you.
It is a lie of sin in the speech of sin that the Holy Scriptures are a record of lifeless words spoken long ago concerning things you must understand for yourself in order to make the 'correct choices' to establish the safety of your soul. Your soul is established in God on the instant of the real and literal new birth in Jesus Christ by the hearing of the Word of God.
Have you ever heard this sentence: "The Bible is our only rule of faith"? Or, "The Bible is literal"!? Or "The Bible is literal in some places and metaphorical in others!", etc..? The whole of those sentences is a trap for the simple. For most of those who --say-- that the Bible is literal and is their only rule of faith do so only because they have witnessed the effect of the Word of God on others as new creations, yet they deny the new creation of others as well as the power of God for themselves and want to derive a benefit they can manufacture for themselves from what they call 'the text' of God's living Word. They are deceived that men have free will and need 'room to interpret'. That is, the set of words, which in their deceived minds are dead, lifeless 'complex symbols which must be interpreted in context' that they wish to derive a benefit (other than new creation in Jesus Christ) is the Holy Scriptures. Further, they --say-- that they have chosen the Holy Scriptures as the particular text from which all benefit must be derived. The speech they speak is sin and they will never be truly born again in Jesus Christ from within the speech of sin.
But the environment in which you presently occupy an earthly body is one in which God is creating other new creations in Jesus Christ (your brothers and sisters in Christ) as you were created by the speaking of His Word and one in which the speech of sin is speaking denying the existence in reality of God and His Word. That is, you are confronted in any given instant with words from every direction and every source, some accompanied by music, some spoken in rhyme, some from those you know and love and some from strangers. These words are by far predominately the speech of sin which can create nothing. That speech is the native speech into which you were physically born and which you grew up speaking and understanding. But now you have been born again, not by that speech of sin, but by the Word of God.
Those around you who have not been born again use the words 'born again' as a metaphor. Those who --speak-- a false Christ who must be 'chosen' by you are spoken through by sin to make it seem as if all speech is the same (that there is no speech of sin or Word of God but simply a mysteriously evolved synergism of communication) and that you have not really been born again. That is, as a born again son of God, (there is no mention of daughters of God, irrespective of whether you are at present in a female body) you are living in a fluid environment in which words of two distinct speeches is being spoken at you at all times with no respite. The only rest in this present body is to hear the Word of God. Read your King James or Darby bible.
There are other sets of words which --say-- they are powerful. There are other sets of words which --say-- they create. But God has said through His Son Jesus Christ, the Word of God, that His people will hear His voice and will flee from strangers.
John 10:27-30 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give them life eternal; and they shall never perish, and no one shall seize them out of my hand. My Father who has given to me is greater than all, and no one can seize out of the hand of my Father. I and the Father are one.
and
John 10:5 But they will not follow a stranger, but will flee from him, because they know not the voice of strangers.
So: The Word of God is alive and is what birthed you as a real and literal new creation in Jesus Christ irrespective of the emotional consequences or reactions. This new birth occurred after having grown up and being mature in the speech of sin which cannot create anything despite its pretense of quoting God's Word worthlessly to 'prove its points' in order to 'help you make a choice for Jesus'. That is, in being born again, you now know the speech of sin to be lie and God's Word to be living truth despite the use at times of an exact word order by sin which exactly duplicates God's Word minus any power.
Beware of those who speak a false gospel of 'choice'. These are they who are spoken of by God as spirit and as life:
2 Tim 3:1-7 But this know, that in last days difficult times shall be there; for men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, evil speakers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, profane, without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, of unsubdued passions, savage, having no love for what is good, traitors, headlong, of vain pretensions, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; having a form of piety but denying the power of it: and from these turn away. For of these are they who are getting into houses, and leading captive silly women, laden with sins, led by various lusts, always learning, and never able to come to knowledge of truth.
and
1 Tim 1:5-7 But the end of what is enjoined is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and unfeigned faith; which some having missed, have turned aside to vain discourse, desiring to be law-teachers, not understanding either what they say or concerning what they strenuously affirm.
and
2 Pet 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, as there shall be also among you false teachers, who shall bring in by the bye destructive heresies, and deny the master that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction;
2 Pet 2:2-3 and many shall follow their dissolute ways, through whom the way of the truth shall be blasphemed. And through covetousness, with well-turned words, will they make merchandise of you: for whom judgment of old is not idle, and their destruction slumbers not.
Understand that the emotional authenticity to the fallen heart and to the emotional economy of the fallen world of their words amongst those who have not been born again and who still live to the world as if there were in truth no such thing as new creation is perfect. The deception of sin is perfect in its denial of the Word of God and the real, literal new creation in Jesus Christ birthed by God's Word. Only this one thing the speech of sin cannot do: actually create.
But you have been newly created in Jesus Christ by the hearing of His Word. Read His Word which is even now speaking to you. Pray in the Name of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit words which will be given to you by the Father to the Father. Do not be afraid. The Word of God has overcome the speech of sin.
John 16:33 These things have I spoken to you that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye have tribulation; but be of good courage: I have overcome the world.
In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen
