Diva’s, Home of the Motherlode Dragon - 1081 Post St. - This is the "in" place in San Francisco for crossdressers and gender benders. If you like looking at beautiful, sexy "girls", this is the place to be! Although the majority of the "girls" here are transsexuals (both pre-op and post-op) and are on hormones, this bar has a fabulous mix of clientele. There are TS's, TV's, gays, lesbians, straights, and everything else in between. It is also racially diverse with a mixture of Whites, Asians, Hispanics, and Blacks. Although it is a pickup bar, many men come just to see or to have conversations with the trannys. On Friday and Saturday nights at 11 PM there is a lip-sync show ($7 cover charge). Every evening after 11 PM the owner turns up the sound system and flips the switches for the disco style lights, fog, and confetti as the "girls" dance the night away on stage! Don't miss the Dragon Dance Club upstairs with DJ Amanda and more sexy girls! Looking for something a little quieter? Then check out the video lounge and pool table on the top floor bar! Currently (6/15/01) under escrow for change of ownership, but hopefully no major changes will be made.
The Trannyshack/Stud - Harrison and Ninth - Turns into the "Trannyshack" on Tuesday nites. Wildest drag show in town hosted by Heklina! Different theme for the show each week. Show starts after midnite, but get there a little earlier, because the place gets jam packed! $5 cover charge and drink specials for the trannys.
Club Rendezvous - (1312 Polk St, near Bush) - just recently began having drag shows every other Friday nite hosted by the fabulous Cockatelia! Shows are at 10:30 and midnite with no cover charge. Next show is on June 29, 2001. The bar is typical of the Polk Gulch area…long and narrow. It was recently remodeled and has a nice upscale look to it and the bar stools are very cushy with arm rests. There’s also a balcony that runs above the bar with tables and chairs. Clientele are mostly gay males and the bartenders (one of which is from the old 1100 Club) are very friendly. If you’ve never seen a show hosted and performed by Cockatelia before, this is one that you’ll have to check out!
Marlena's - Hayes and Octavia - Drag shows on Fridays at midnight. TV performers are older, but crowd is younger and mixed with many straights.(note: Marlena's has cancelled the regular shows, but still has special events from time to time)
Asia SF - Ninth and Howard - Bar/Restaurant/Dance Club. Transgendered waitresses serve you and dance for you from 6 to 10 PM seven nights a week. High tech bar with exotic lighting and high energy youthful crowd. Be advised that for Friday and Saturday nites, reservations are required and usually several weeks in advance...very popular place!
Tango Tango - California near Polk - En Drag revue on Friday and Saturday nites. 3 shows starting at 10 pm hosted by Alexandria. Fun and sexy show in a nice club with a dozen very enthusiastic performers. $9 cover charge.
Blue Muse - Gough near Hayes - TGSF hosts their monthly social here on the last Thursday of every month. Members occasionally put on a show. Drop in and sign up.
Este Noche - 16th St near Valencia - A Hispanic gay bar that has drag shows on weekends. Nice dance bar and some gorgeous latin queens. This is a pretty rough neighborhood in the middle of the Mission District which is comprised of Hispanics and Blacks with a lot of drug and prostitution activity in the streets, so be careful outside. $8 cover charge.
Aunt Charlie's - Turk and Taylor - Cute little bar with pink interior and lots of mirrors. Drag shows on Fridays and Saturdays. In the middle of the rough and tumble Tenderloin.
N'Touch - Polk near Sacramento - Gay bar for young Asians. Some Asian queens hang out here occasionally. Nice little dance bar. Thursday nite tranny specials and show hosted by Tita Aida with the Metamorphosis Girls and the Rice Queens.
Jezebel's - Larkin St near Turk St - Same owner as the Power Exchange (see below). Nice cozy bar with comfortable sofas and chairs. Good music, nice interior decorating, and soft lighting. 2 pool tables and a basement area. Tranny bartenders and a mixed crowd. Tranny nite on Thursdays.
Harvey's - Castro and 18th - "Wedna Wednesdays" drag show weekly at 8 PM.
Bench and Bar - 11th St and Oak in Oakland - Occasional Latina shows on Wednesdays. Good sized dance floor.
Power Exchange - 74 Otis St near Mission and Van Ness - This is a sex club for transvestites and their admirers. It is the relocated Substation from Harrison St for those of you who have been there. The move took place the day after Valentine's, February 15, 1998. This club caters to transgenders, heterosexuals, couples, and gay/lesbian. The new location is larger, on several floors, and features a dungeon room and various nooks and crannies for your viewing and participating pleasures! A snack bar and XXX video room also available. A fetish ball is held on the third Saturday each month!
