The "Carl Frei Traveling Concert Organ" was considered to be the largest
traveling Fair Organ in the world. Built by the famous organ builder Carl
Frei Sr. of Breda, Holland. The organ uses large" books" to play. These
books are made of cardboard and fold back and forth as they go through the
keyframe, the music scale of 112 notes/functions plays the organ music as
well as controlling the Bass drum, Snare Drum, Glockenspiel, cymbals,
triangle etc.
This organ also has a set of 12 tubular chimes the largest being about 6
ft. long. These not only played with the organ but also between songs! Also
included was a "Dancing Waters" complete with fountains of water and
coloured lights continually changing as the music played, all controlled by
the music book. The large tubs for the dancing waters were mounted on large
rollers and slid under the organs trailer for traveling. For many years
this organ was owned by Conklin and Garrett Shows who played it at fairs
and exibitions in Canada and the USA. This instrument is now located in
Switzerland.
