Remember when you were a kid looking at all the incredible box artwork of the AURORA classic monsters, how bad you wanted to purchase these kits, only to find that the actual kit did not resemble anything close to the artwork? Well, now they do!

Another winner from Monsters in Motion  that features the beautiful Aurora art work of James Bama in a 3D model kit. Also another GREAT sculpt by Jeff Yagher.

This is the fifth kit in the Aurora Box Art Series

This kit was a Christmas gift from my Wife and I've been basically working on it since the day after Christmas.
I made the mistake of trying to build this kit along with building the Banana Splits Buggies and it's been almost nonstop.
I think that my eyes might be permanently crossed.

As is the case with all of the kits in this series, the sculpt is dead on.
This Ape's face looks just like the BIG GUY that we all fondly remember from the AURORA box.

The toughest part about the painting of this kit was trying to match up the different shades of browns and grays that Bama painted in the original art.
This was NOT an easy task.

I didn't really want to paint his eyes red but (again) I wanted to copy the original painting the best that I could.
I'm sure that Bama had his own reasons for painting the eyes and nostrils red.

I also had a bit of a time keeping Kong glued to the base BUT
this was my own fault for being too lazy to take the time to pin
the figure to the base.
There is a lesson here for beginners...
DON'T BE LAZY WITH EXPENSIVE KITS!

You all will be happy to know that he is now secure to the base.
You'll notice the green shrubbery atop the back tree.
This is not something that comes with this kit.
I added it because I felt it might make it look more like the
original box art.
After doing it, I don't think that it makes all that much of a
difference.
All in all, this was a fun kit to build and I thank my Wife (again)
for the gift.
When all is said and done, I still think that the Dracula
and the Phantom are still my two favorites in this series
and I have to believe that it's because they are both indoor
scenes with the big brick walls and such.
Thus, I am very excited that the next kit in this series will be
The Bride of Frankenstein so stay tuned.
I'll give this kit an A- and I'd recommend it to all of you Aurora fans.
