MIND SLASH MATTER - Edward Wellen (audiobook)Edward Wellen's Mind Slash Matter is part science fiction, part mystery and available only on audio. Rush Lightbody is a Hollywood screenwriter stricken with Alzheimer's disease, but in anticipation of this, he has created a complex computer program to run his life. The computer takes care of Rush's career and personal affairs as well as helping him through his daily routine. Rush's memory is almost gone, but the computer provides constant reminders, running the gammut from who he is and what he's accomplished to Juanita, "the nice lady who comes every day and takes care of things," and P.J. Katz "he's your agent." With the help of the computer, Rush has fooled everyone into thinking he's normal and now he's been commissioned to write the life story of screen legend Iris Cameron. However, Rush soon receives death threats if he does not stop writing the biography and eventually he becomes a suspect in a series of serial killings. Mind Slash Matter is one of the most entertaining audios I've heard. The story is humorous, heart wrenching, exciting, and suspenseful. Wellen effectively gives us a feel for what it's like to live with Alzheimer's, and the result is a very powerful tale. The audio is 2 tapes and published by Durkin Hayes. Rene Auberjenois is the reader, and his performance is top-notch. He uses different voices for each character and brings out the emotion of each scene. The story mixes several genres of fiction, and the overall production of Mind Slash Matter is excellent.
