Meet the Artist

I am a member of the SDP (Society Decorative Painters, 393 N. McLean Blvd., Wichita, KS 67203) and of the local chapter, Decorative Artists of Texas in Deer Park. In September of 94, I visited Canada and completed 100 hours of study under Priscilla Hauser in her Tole Painting Teachers Program. I received my Accredited Teachers Certificate from Priscilla at that time. I'm a lifelong lover of Decorative Painting and have persued my love in various ways for many years. Early on, I was mostly self-taught as I raised my children. In the early 80's, I spent several months studying oil painting under a teacher who had learned to paint studying under Joan Johnson. Then I developed a problem with migraine headaches every time I picked up oils and that's when my fabric painting career began. During the mid 1980's, I had my own tole shop and taught fabric painting there. In 1989, I had a bad snow-skiing accident which left me learning to walk again and I was off my feet for many months. I had to close my shop and now I teach on cruise ships and in a home studio. Amazing what forks in the road sometimes lead to. I try to attend a couple of conventions a year--and wish it could be more--and take workshops to improve my techniques while still inventing techniques of my own. I have recently begun to paint with oils again observing better safety measures for my health and have had no problems since. And since I lost all those years when I couldn't paint with oils, I plan to live to be at least a 100 so I will have plenty of time left to practice.
I live on a farm (near Houston, TX) with my wonderful husband, Richard. Between the 2 of us we have 13 children (7 are mine, 1 set of twins), 27 grandchildren (28th is on the way) and 1 great grandchild. AND I'm 60 years young! Life has basically been very good to me and I thank my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for all the blessings he has heaped on me. For whatever talent I may have, and for my wonderful husband and family. I also thank him for answered prayers in times of trouble especially for those lifted up for my brother, Ronnie.
