MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

ELIGIBLE MALES with one or more ancestors who actively assisted in establishing American Independence by:

  • their acts or council between April 19, 1775, when hostilities commenced, and April 19, 1783, when they ceased, in military, naval, or marine service, or;
  • service in the Continental Congress or the Congress of any of the thirteen colonies, or;
  • service as an official under the authority of such bodies.

MEMBERSHIP TYPES

  • SENIOR MEMBERSHIP: Available to eligible males 18 years or older in most State Societies (21 in a few).
  • JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP: Available in most State Societies for candidates from birth to 18 or 21 years of age.
  • LIFE MEMBERSHIP: Prepays dues for life.

THE SONS HAVE PERMANENTLY PRESERVED ON MICROFICHE the official records of all members. Eligibility may often be determined from documentation of a qualifying ancestor, some of whose records now are also available in the Sons' databank, some from other lineage societies or family records. If such records are not available, the Sons' General Secretary will provide a list of sources that can be pursued, including names of qualified genealogists who can do the work at nominal cost. Upon completion of application papers, the State Society's Membership Committee will help the applicant through the application process.
