"Who is Tom Knight?"
Tom Knight is a drummer/percussionist who has the ability to play in any musical
situation. With an incredible sense of time and unbelievable technique, Tom has
played it all--R&B, fusion, pop/rock, jazz and more. He is currently on tour
with R&B super-group TLC.
Born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Tom moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia at the age
of 8 and started playing drums at school in the sixth grade. He continued playing
through high school and studied at Georgia State University as a jazz studies
major. Throughout these years, he has accumulated numerous awards and commendations
for his incredible musicianship and technical ability.
In 1992, Tom formed the group "Skin Deep" with some friends. As the band's
popularity grew, so did the interest of several record labels. Producer
Dallas Austin (TLC, Monica, Boyz II Men, Michael Jackson, Madonna) came
to see the group at a club one night and liked what he saw and heard.
He soon signed the lead singer, Terrence, to his label, Rowdy Records, and
began calling Tom for studio work. Since then, Tom has played for
superstars such as TLC, Monica and N'Dea Davenport.
One reason for Tom's great success is his incredible ability to create the
most musical part for any situation. While he has the ability to play the most
difficult parts, he knows that flashy playing often crowds the music and isn't
afraid to play a straight groove. He locks quickly with sequencers, follows
a click track effortlessly, and can improvise a solo masterfully.
Tom Knight is an extraordinarily versatile and professional drummer with
the rhythm, soul, and technical expertise to tackle any musical siuation.
His career continues to grow with each new project and things won't be slowing
down anytime soon!
