Shu-le-Crow
cottage overlooks the river Greta and the mountains
of Skiddaw and Latrigg beyond. For those interested in history, the house
is Georgian (circa 1796) with most of its original features
intact; lots of wooden shutters, cast-iron fire grates, flagstone
floors and even an oriel window.
The name is Scandinavian: "the wheel where the crows live" from
the old Norse hjol meaning wheel, probably a water wheel. However,
on a more modern note all the rooms are en-suite with TV and
coffee making facilities.
