Tornado near Beggs, Okla.

Shot through a windshield, this photo shows a tornado near Beggs, Okla. on May 26, 1997. On this day, the atmosphere was extremely unstable with brisk, shearing winds: the perfect recipe for whipping up a twister. Fortunately, no one was killed or seriously injured during this Memorial Day outbreak. Unfortunately, the next day a powerful F5 tornado smashed through a subdivision in Jarrell, Tex., killing 27 people.
