The Motor Mounts

The PO who did the 350 conversion just did the minimum to get a 350 in there. It had one of those front cradle motor mounts so they could use the stock mount location on the frame. Well, since I wanted to mount a Saginaw power steering pump, the cradle mount had to be done away with. I couldn't see paying $100 and up for a pair of Cruiser to 350 mounts... So while at Cruise Moab 98 I saw some that seemed easy enough to fabricate. I'm using part of the stock Chevy 350 mount and mating that to what we made. The picture is more explanatory, but here goes. The scab plate that is welded to the frame is 3/16" thick, and the 2 pieces that are welded to the tube and scab plate are 1/4" thick. What holds and cushions the motor is 2 Toyota rubber spring bushings, a 3/4"grade 8 bolt, with 2 washers and an aircraft nut. It seems really simple and at this point, seems to work just fine. Up to now, it has only been driven on the nearby county roads up to the local truck stop to fill the gas tank. Which is the smaller 16 gallon one from the 77. I had to switch because the 72's 18 gallon tank had rust holes. I guess we'll know if the design is ok when we finally get to take it off road! Those shock bushings shouldn't let the engine "move" around too much. So my 2 fans should be ok.
