This
Georgia artist paints images from life. Whether it is the sun drenched beaches
of the Bahamas or the Mountains and Architecture of Provence, she feels the
experience of having been there gives added dimension to her work.
Using Acrylics, her paintings are colorful representations of these places.
Brush strokes create texture, and contrasts help define the light qualities
that set the mood for each piece. She attains the final image through repeated
layers of transparent and opaque color. The finished work is given several
layers of varnish to protect the paint.
Working on location "plein-air" or from photographs she takes herself, all
of the creative work is done solely by the artist.
"When I travel I am always looking for exciting images. When I see something
that inspires me I try to take several reference photos. These help me later
to develop my compositions. Once I have decided on an idea, I try to assemble
as many reference photos as possible. I then work out a sketch either on
gessoed paper or gessoed canvas and begin layering on colors."
The artist sometimes employees a part time assistant to cut mats, gesso paper
and frame. These jobs are usually done by the artist.
