Shopping in Amsterdam

  • Nieuwendijk-Kalverstraat-Rokin-Leidsestraat, leading from the Central Station, is Amsterdam's main shopping area.

  • Jordaan-delightful little shops and boutiques.  Some second hand and antique shops.

  • DIAMONDS-Amsterdam is the place to look at diamonds.  The prices are usually more reasonable than you would find elsewhere, since it is a center of diamond trade.  You can take a free conducted tour of a diamond workshop, and see diamonds being cut and polished.

  • Magna Plaza Shopping Center-19th century monument converted into a shopping mall. Great cafe on the 2nd floor- Cafe Ristretto.

  • Markets-There are several excellent markets in Amsterdam.

    • Albert Cuypstraat:  has an assortment of exotic fruits and vegetables, and fish.  You can also find an enormous selection of inexpensive clothes, shoes, and other items.

    • Waterlooplein fleamarket-the famous Amsterdam market

    • Floating flower market-on the Singel Canal

    • Farmers market in Noordermarkt
