June Willson-Read, Phd: author of Relationships: One Step on the Path.  Her children's stories are included in many anthologies including Leaning Into the Wind; No Grown-Ups Allowed; Candle in the Attic; and Artisians of the Triad.  Dr. Read teaches writing classes at Guilford County Technical College and has presented at the UNCG's Young Writer's Conference for many years.
Karen McCullough:  award-winning author of nine published novels including four romantic suspense books from Avalon, a fantasy role-playing game tie-in from Iron Crown Enterprises, and two contemporary romantic suspense novels, A Question of Fire; and Shadow of a Doubt. She is also Senior Web Editor at Furniture Today.
What ...are we offering at Triad Writers Workshop 2003?

All registrants will attend the Jerry Bledsoe session and may pick four additional sessions from the list below.  A catered, barbeque chicken lunch will be served so all attendees can network with other writers and our guests.  Weather permitting, an after-sessions social hour will be held around a bonfire for additional networking.

"The Business Side of Writing" – Instructor: Scott Nicholson - When you need an agent and how to get one?  Understanding the industry.

"Where Ideas Come From" – Instructors: Lynn Chandler-Willis and Julie Anne Parks – How to recognize story ideas in both fiction and non-fiction; nourishing your creativity and generating ideas.

"Promoting Your Writing" – Instructor: Scott Nicholson - Tricks of the trade for making sure your writing receives the attention it deserves.

"Electronic Publishing" – Instructor: Karen McCullough - The ins and outs of publishing your work in electronic media.

Non-Fiction:

"What a Non-Fiction Editor Looks For" – Instructor: Karen McCullough - What makes your manuscript or query stand out among other submissions? Goofs that mark you as an amateur.

"Non-Fiction with a Creative Flair" – Instructor: Dr. June Willson Reed - Dress factual details to produce fascinating non-fiction. Choose the form of non-fiction that fits you.

"So You Wanna Be a Freelancer" – Instructor: Julie Anne Parks – Writing a successful query; where to find appropriate markets; if art is necessary; when (and if) to quit your day job.

"True Crime" – Instructor: Lynn Chandler-Willis – From the research to the legalities; the story behind the crime.

"Police Procedural" – Instructor: Lynn Chandler Willis – How to turn "just the facts" into more than a police report

Fiction:

"Dialog" -  Instructor: Karen McCullough - Is your dialog realistic?  Do your characters have individual voices or do they all sound the same?  Is your dialog advancing the story?

"Whose Story is it?" – Instructor: Scott Nicholson - The tricks of creating believable, sympathetic characters and enough conflict to keep your plot humming along.

"Writing for Children" – Instructor: Dr. June Willson Reed - Is your inner child just dying for a story?  Or does he/she want to tell one?  Explore the elements of writing children's stories.
