Why ... are we offering these workshops?
North Carolina's Triad is rich in talent, but short on affordable resources for new and/or hopeful writers. We wanted to offer beginning writers (and more advanced writers who don't know what to do with their manuscripts) an opportunity to mix one-on-one with a variety of professional writers and editors. We want you to have a chance to ask specific questions and get specific answers from people who know.
But we don't want it to be in the usual stuffy workshop/seminar atmosphere of formal classrooms -- we want a "Saturday casual" atmosphere, where you aren't being choked by tight collars or pinched by high heel shoes, an atmosphere conducive to relaxed conversation, instruction and networking.
What can be more casual than a day on the farm in your jeans and sneakers? What can be more fun than a day surrounded by those people who share your interests and understand the thrill of finding the perfect character, the perfect angle for a story, the perfect kicker for a paragraph?
From when, what, why, where and how to write a grab-'em-by-the-throat query letter to the intricacies of character, dialog and plot development, join us for a writer's day on the farm.
We're going to have a great time, make new friends, and pick the brains of some wonderful professional writers.
Just don't forget your sneakers!
