Studio spaces: Building is approx 70ft X 80ft. Variety of areas(see plan at bottom of page): large open area downstairs: approx 32ft X 40ft. Several upstairs and downstairs offices: from 12ft X 18Ft, to 20ft X 30ft. Two sinks: one upstairs and one downstairs. Sheltered 20ft deep outdoor work area in front. Small shed out in front(behind white truck).
Rents: approximately .40 to .45 sq ft, month-to-month, including gallery and lounge areas
Live In: There is no living anywhere on Mare Island at the present time. This will change in 3 years when the Navy's title passes to the City of Vallejo.
Proposed Uses: Painting and drawing, printmaking, sculpture, woodworking, graphic design, photography, computer graphics, ceramics(building has lots of access to power). Note: Because we are the first artists on the Island, and because of the large common areas in the building, degrees of cooperation and congeniality will be part of the mix for the Coal Shed.
Description of Building: Wood frame with 28' open truss ceiling. Office type spaces on two sides, up and downstairs.
Concrete floor downstairs, with several spaces under mezzanine, including lounge & common gallery.
Large open area approx 32 X 40 ft inside.
Mezzanine floor: various spaces: ea approx 20ft wide. Enclosed offices, upstairs.
Light: medium quality: needs skylights to augment windows, though plans are to open great double doors.
Water: 2 sinks: one on each floor.

Electric: lots; this used to be the electric shop.

Directions: There are only 2 entrances to Mare Island. One, over the Blue Drawbridge, which is open 24 hours everyday, and one just on the Marin side of the Hwy 37 bridge(this is only open during the week, during office hours.) There are 2 sides to Mare Island: River and Bay. The River faces back to the city of Vallejo.
Entering Mare Island from Marin side on Hwy 37: take exit right before bridge(labled "Mare Island"). Pass through gate and go down WALNUT AVE about 5 block TO 'G' ST. Turn Left on 'G' Street. Go 2 blocks and turn Right on CALIFORNIA AVE. Go about 4 blocks and turn left(toward the river) on 4th ST. Go 2 blocks to the water. Studio 153 is at the corner of 4TH & WATERFRONT.
Entering Mare Island from Hwy 80: Exit west at Hwy 37(Vallejo). Follow 37 all through Vallejo untiil JUST BEFORE Big Bridge(Wilson Ave). Exit Right, under and loop under Big Bridge. Follow Wilson Ave, keeping water on your right. See the blue drawbridge: Go through Gate & cross over drawbridge. Turn left onto CALIFORNIA AVE. Go about 4 blocks and turn left(toward the river) on 4th ST. Go 2 blocks to the water. Studio 153 is at the corner of 4TH & WATERFRONT.
