New Optek Photodiode for OEM Position
. . . . CARROLLTON, TX - Optek Technology, Inc. has announced the OSM910 Position Sensing Detector (PSD), an analog silicon photodiode designed to accurately detect the position of a light spot projected onto its active area. The component offers a high degree of linearity, resolution and fast response time.

The OSM910 can be configured with an appropriate infrared LED, lens and detection circuitry to accurately detect the location of objects over distances from under one-quarter inch (0.5 cm) up to 10 feet (3 meters). Applications include auto-focus mechanisms, activation of automatic teller machines or vending machines in response to the presence of a user, precise location sensing in industrial equipment, safety applications, accurate media detection in printers, and any OEM application that requires precise position sensing.
. . . . The PSD has a common cathode and two anode contacts with a high resistance between them. A spot of light projected onto the active area produces a current from each anode that is proportionate to the spot's relative position. A change in spot position will cause the current from each anode to change allowing accurate position tracking.
. . . . The OSM910 is housed in an 8-pin, SO style surface mount package that features holes or pins (OSM910P) for alignment. Samples and Application Notes are available. Pricing for the 910 Detector is $3.15 Qty/1000.
