clan. When Takeda Shingen succeeded his
father, Nagatoki formed a league against him with Suwa
Yorishige, but the latter lost
both his life and his domains in 1553. (Shingen took
Suwa's princess as his
concubine; she bore him his 4th son Katsuyori. Nagatoki
was soon defeated
and compelled to seek refuge near Murakami Yoshikiyo in Echigo. The latter
funished him with an army, but was beaten again and sought shelter with
Uesugi Kenshin."**472

fact: Served Tokugawa Ieyasu and
received a fief of in Koga (Shimoosa) of 20,000-koku,
making him a daimyo.
He married Toku-hime, the daughter of Nobuyasu Matsudaira
and Toku Oda. Nobuyasu was the first son of Tokugawa Ieyasu and his
consort
Lady Tsukiyama. Toku Oda was the daughter of Oda Nobunaga and his
concubine
Ikoma Kitsuno. In 1601, after the Battle of Sekigahara, he was promoted and
transferred to Iida in Shinano province with a stipend
of 50,000-koku. In 1613, he
recovered the castle of his ancestors at Fukashi
(80,000-koku). Died in battle of
Osaka Summer Campaine. His daughter was adopted by
Tokugawa Hidetada and
was re-named to Princess Chiyo (Chiyo-hime). She was
later wed to Hosokawa
Tadatoshi.
She was also an actual great-granddaughter of Ieyasu.

fact: Given the fief of 150,000 koku
and becomes the Lord of Kokura after his father
and
elder brother died in the Osaka Summer Campaine. He was
also the lord who
employed Miyamoto Musashi's adopted son, Iori.
Iori and Musashi fought against
the Christians in the Shimabara uprising under
Tadazane's army which ended only
after a total and complete massacre. The 3rd Tokugawa
Shogun, Iemitsu, then
banned the practice of Christianity throughout Japan and
restricted foreign trades
to certain countries and items. The Dutch were the only
Europeans that were allowed
to trade with Japan for over 250 yrs. until Commodor
Perry's arrival. He was also a
great-grandson of Tokugawa Ieyasu.
