Piddington Villa Museum

The Upper Nene Archaeological Society (U.N.A.S.) has been excavating the Late Iron Age settlement and Romano-British Villa in the village of Piddington, near Northampton, since 1979. During this period the Society has accumulated a large quantity of material from the site, including evidence for the names of two villa owners.

In 1992 the Society learned that the redundant Wesleyan Chapel (built 1851), in Piddington, was for sale. The management committee of the Society decided to raise funds and purchase the building, so that a site museum could be established. This would display and interpret the site and provide research, library and educational facilities.

The purchase of the Chapel saved it from proposed demolition, and the Society has repaired and restored the exterior to its original character, where possible. This has been supported by the Parish, Local and County Councils and national appeals.
