Comments on this site: My second trip to this property this year and the same results. Didn't catch a lot of fish but these Rainbows are huge SLABS. Arrived at Noon and on my second cast in the large run about mid property I landed a 19" 3 1/2 pound Rainbow.(on a big rubber legged Stimulator). A 20+ inch 4 pound 4 ounce Rainbow on a #16 FBPT dropper was the biggest of 4 for the day. An 18 inch hooked jaw slab on an Olive Stim size 10 and a 16 inch Rainbow on the same #16 FBPT trailing the Stim. The moss is still a problem for deep nymphing. If we could get down there I think we would be catching a mess of these hogs. Another member who was fishing the same day said he caught 8 or so in the morning, so that's probably the best time to fish, they weren't rising at all 12 to 6 while my guest and I were there. If size matters and you wan't to catch a few Hogs this property is the best RMAC property I've fished.

Comments on this site: Fished the Hogue from 9-12 on Sunday morning. Cool day, cloudy, perfect for fishing. First, the bad news. The moss is really, really a pain. The higher flows from the snow/rain from Saturday might have dislodged some of the bottom-moss, b/c it was throughout the water column. Literally, every cast was cleanup duty. Not every other cast. Even stripping streamers was every cast cleanup, since there was so much moss in all the water, no matter what the depth. Could only stand it for three hours. Now, the good news. During those 2 hours, caught 5 fish. 2 of them were beasts - 19-20 inches with at least 12-13 inches of girth. Set your drag tight for this water. Fished with a 14 copper john with a size 20 zebra midge dropper. All fish took the midge. All fish were caught out of the deep runs below riffles. Suprisingly, the fish don't hold directly below riffles (or in them) as they do in other places, at least as far as I could tell. Hogs like it deep, I suppose. In sum, if you are patient with regard to the moss, and like hog-hunting, this is great water. Take two days and fish the town water as well. Smaller fish but more of them, less moss.

Comments on this site: Still a lot of snow but the water is open, and a nice packed trail to the river, after that walking is a little tougher. Kris caught a 22" Rainbow(5+ pounds)on a red San Juan Worm and followed it up with a 18" Bow on a small Pheasant Tail but that was it. Kris' biggest fish ever, so that was fun.(I screwed up the picture.. ooops) Busy day with lots of anglers(4) with limited access because of the snow. So instead of fighting for the best fishing hole I grasiously yielded to my wonderful wife, consequently suffering my first "Skunk" in 54 RMAC fishing trips. But as long as she had fun.......... thats all that really maters. As you can see I am a kinder and gentler fishing partner in 2002.

Comments on this site: Great property - water still a bit high and tea colored, but great fishing - caught a half dozen rainbows ranging from 17 - 22" in about 5 hours. Before you go - stop by the Steamboat Flyfishing Company for the hot fly pattern.

Comments on this site: Fishing it this time of year is touchy. In the morning it is high, but clear and by the evening it is starting to peak and get very off-color. Started the early a.m. with stripping big stuff and it paid off. Big fish in big water makes for almost scary fights! As the day heated up the fishing really slowed but you could still find them holding in the slower water and side channels. Once again, I am suprised by the strength and weight per length of the yampa rainbows. Our group picked up one large cuttbow and brown as well.

Comments on this site: First time to fish the Yampa downstream of Steamboat after the Elk River combines. Flow was very good and water was clear. The property had far more river to fish in a day than was possible. Had read some of the past reports so wasn't expecting a 20 fish day but was hoping for some big, strong fish and that was certainly the case! Beautiful Rainbows, all over 18 inches, the biggest about 22" and very heavy fish. Man those fish could pull! I look forward to getting back to the property for another sessions with these big, heavy fish.

Comments on this site: Fished well but a little spotty at times. From 8-9:30 and 12-1 the fishing was excellent and caught many big fish from 16-22 inches. All the fish were caught on a barr emerger and WD40.

Comments on this site: First time here. Great water. Fished #14 copper john with small midge droppers in A.M. at deep run by cottonwood logjams at north bank mid-property. Pulled out numerous large, beautiful bows. Got slower in P.M. but got a few to take stimis on top.

Comments on this site: Still fishing fantastically. Water is warming up in the heat of the day. Recommend halting fishing at around 66-67 degrees to keep down stress. Go early in the morning, fish until the water warms up to around those temps & them waint until later in the evening when cooling. They have had rain. Also may be blooming soon-doesn't hurt fishing.

Comments on this site: Incredible day. Caught big fish all day long. Twenty-five fish with an average of 20+ including probably the biggest fish ever caught-at least 24 inches that finally snapped off after weed buildup. Great fly was a Trico fished as a nymph. Also good was a s20 Chocolate Emerger and a green Beadhead Caddis. Dry fly fishing was also great on PMD'S and Yellow Sallies. Fall such a great time. Also liked s20 bhRed Fox Squirrel Hair, RS2 & Chocolate Emergers.

Comments on this site: Good fishing with a BG Special (a form of Baetis Nymph) and a florescent orange Beadhead Prince. Really strong healthy fish. Some good sized, but also encouraging smaller fish from 6 to 12 inches--both browns and rainbows

Comments on this site: Fished a half day on this section 2/5. Drift ice was almost all gone by 1pm however there was still a lot of bank ice. Although the warm spell of the past few weeks has opened a substantial portion of this year, it is still cold and ice is your competition. About every 6 casts we would have to clear the guides. Caught 2 big rainbows on size 2 streamers (black bead wooly buggers on bottom), each about 19-20 inches and fat. Couple other tugs but could not hook up. Great water, should be wide open very soon.

Comments on this site: After a great day on C-45 I drove toward Steamboat and camped up on Rabbit Ears Pass to camp closer to the Hogue. Arrived with high expectations with the weather and river conditions perfect. Turned out to be a very tecnical day. Hooked up probably 10-12 times and landed 5 or 6. Smallest fish was about 18 inches and landed one right at 25 inches. All rainbows for me, however another member of my group landed nearly a 6 pound brown. Caught all my fish on Barr emerger, rs2 and zebra midge. I guess you can't complain with fish like these, I am probably just spoiled from past experiences here.

Comments on this site: Flow Approx 200 cfs. Great day with 3 fish between 5-7 lbs. Red SJW, midge larvae and FBPT s18. Most of the fish were in tail out below riffles. Hard wading, couldn't get out of river due to snow.

Comments on this site: Fished the Hogue Ranch on July 7 with 3 other RMAC members. Caught a good number of big rainbows mostly in the deeper pools, with copper johns and midge droppers. Water temp went from a warm 66 in A.M. to a hot 76 in P.M. We quit early due to water temp. I would advise fishing a different property in the near term unless rains increase flow.

Comments on this site: Was overcast all day with temperatures in the low 50s and high 40s and no wind. The river was flowing in the 120s. There was another member named Tom T??? on the property, and he was kind enough to describe the property to me and my wife. We caught several 13 - 15 inch fish in the shallower runs, and hooked approx. 20 larger fish in the deeper pools, especially at the lower end of the property. Almost all fish were caught or hooked on size 20 or 22 baetis patterns, with a few also on olive wooly buggers stripped along banks.
