Comments on this site: Water level low and moving slowly. Mossy and discolored. Was wondering if the long drive was worth it. It was !!! Every deep hole held a load of 14-20 inch rainbows. They were healthy and strong. Overall caught about twenty for the day.Missed another 10. Also landed a 24" monster brown. Never have a camera when you need one. Used a stimulator with a green copper john dropper. They hammered the copper john, but only the green one. Refused other colors. This was quite a day. Can't wait to go back next year.

Comments on this site: On the river at 10:00 AM, clouds of trico's over the water but only a rare bank-side riser. Water was slightly off-color so switched to streamers. Lost count, but over 20 fish each for the two of us. NO small fish which was interesting - all big, slab-sided rainbows, averaging a legitimate 16 to 19 inches. At least a few big fish in every deep holding lie along the bank and especially around any form of structure. No monster browns but we weren't disappointed. Tungsten cone-head wollybuggers in brown/orange and brown/yellow were the flies of choice.

Comments on this site: First time on C61 though I fished its companions, C48 and C62, multiple times. The bends and the bows downstream from the bridge look very intriguing from the road. Unfortunately, the reality of the downstream water was less impressive. My sense is that when the North Fork is flowing at over 50 CFS there is a lot of potential in the lower section, however, at low flow it is challenging. Fishing from about 200 yards upstream of the C48/C61 boundary to the bridge, I caught 3 fish and moved another 2 really nice browns, the latter in the 3 lb plus range. The key was to find some structure: a riffle, a deflecting current, some relatively deep broken water adjacent to a bank. I caught all 3 on streamers, even though a tric hatch was on. Above the bridge, there was a great deal more structure and I found a bunch more fish. When I hit this water, there were few rises, so I stayed with streamers, mostly a black V streamer and a gummy minnow. I probably landed another 7 fish, a mix of browns and rainbows with a couple in the 14-15 inch range. I did have two notable events occur above the bridge. I spooked what appeared to be a good 20 inch plus rainbow from a small riffle. After a 10 minute water/stretch break, I moved upstream into some slower holding water where I saw the outline of a big fish tentatively starting to feed. It rose twice and I believe it was the rainbow that I spooked. I tied on a size 14 beetle and was able to get a good drift over the fish but only received a half hearted inspection. I then switch to a McMurray ant and got another good drift to the fish. This time the fish rose aggressively, but just made a big circle around the fly as if to say “I know what you are doing” and then disappeared. My sense is that it probably also gestured with the middle ray in its right front fin. About another 30 yards upstream, I heard what seemed like a klunking sound from a bank side tree. Then I heard two more similar sounds as two of the biggest great horned owls that I’ve seen took flight over the stream. A very interesting day.

Comments on this site: Started fishing this beautiful area around 7am and had to unfortunately cut it short around 2:30pm. Caught several rainbows throughout the day predominately all on a Parachute Adams with the exception of a brown on a hopper and a 18" on a royal wulff in the early morning in the bend upstream from the the high cutback in the river. Parked and fished the upper section in the afternoon and saw quite a few fish rising and landed a few with a cinnemon ant against the bank. All in all, I am definately heading back to this site. Beautiful scenery and great fishing!

Comments on this site: C-61 very difficult to fish. Water was on low side and edges of stream were mud. Difficult casting due to waist high grass. Stream bed consists of small gravel and weeds. Only caught 1 fish but it was a 23" rainbow. Caught on a hopper. No fish were rising. Not worth the drive from Winter Park
