Then the USS ALPHA CENTAURI is for you!

Home Base for the USS Alpha Centauri is just off the Washington Beltway in Camp Springs, MD., near Andrews Air Force Base.

In addition to attending local conventions, the crew of the Alpha Centauri participates in a number of fun and community service activities. Some of our traditional events are: Ship's anniversary party, mission at the Challenger Center, MS Walk-a-thon, Christmas in April, Shoreleave convention, various picnics, pool party/cookout, Trek Olympics, Farpoint convention and the Holiday party. We have game nights and movie nights. We have built and launched model rockets, which we usually launch at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD.

We received the Starfleet Ship of Excellence Award in 1994 and the Region 7 Chapter of the Year Award for 1997.

Our Commanding Officer is Fleet Capt. Shirley Weaver. She has been CO of the ship since she and her husband, Capt. David Weaver, hosted the first organizational meeting in February 1992. Shirley was Vice Regional Coordinator of Starfleet's Region 7, responsible for Sector 2, which includes Maryland, Delaware, and Washington, DC from 1994 through 2000.

The ship began as a "shuttle" in March 1992 when our application to join Starfleet was approved. We were commissioned as a starship on January 1, 1993.

Membership aboard the Alpha Centauri includes monthly issues of the chapter's newsletters, the Stellar Charts and the Comlog, currently published on alternating months. These will keep you informed about the Alpha Centauri, Starfleet, and the many facets of the Star Trek universe!
