O'ahu's Popular Shore Dives

 

 

NORTH SHORE: Shark's Cove, Firestation, and Three Tables are popular in the summer months (May-October). On road maps it's shown as Pupukea Beach Park. There are facilities: restrooms, outdoor showers, telephone. Hale'iwa Trench is also accessible in the summer months, parking and entries are from the beach park left of the boat harbor.There are facilities: restrooms, showers, picnic tables, lifeguard.

 

WEST SHORE: Is accessible all year depending on surf conditions. Makua entry and exit are from the beach or the lava formation. There are no facilities. Makaha Caverns is accessible from Makaha Beach Park but mostly done from a boat. So make sure the boats can see you if you swim out on the surface.There are facilities: restrooms, outdoor showers, lifeguard . Kahe Point / Electric Beach on the road map is Kahe Point Beach Park . Facilities: telephone,restrooms, outdoor showers, picnic tables.

 

SOUTH / EAST SHORE:Portlock is a drift dive there are no facilities and parking is on a side street , Hanapepe Loop, the dive entry is from a ledge. The current from the rising tide will carry divers along the wall to the exit. Hanauma Bay is one of Hawaii's most popular dive site, and a State Marine Life Sanctuary. It's accessible all year, there are facilities: restrooms, outdoor showers, snorkel rental, snack bar, telephone, picnic tables. Lana'i Lookout east of Hanauma Bay is mostly done during the winter months. The entry is from a ledge divers can follow the wall into a small cove to exit . There are no facilities. Halona Blowhole accessible mostly during the winter months. A path on the right side leads down to the beach , the same beach where they filmed "From Here to Eternity"'s beach segment .The nearest facilities are east at Sandy Beach .

 

Before attempting any of these shore dives do some pre-dive preparation, get more info on the sites from local Dive shops, and from other divers at the site.
