Fractals:

Relating to irregular shapes that have intricate structure at all levels so that details are reminiscent of the entire object (self-similarity).

Fractals are an interesting branch of mathematics.  The science of fractals has a lot to do with organization among apparent chaos- or would the mathematician describe it just the opposite???

The term fractal was 'coined' in 1975 by  Benoit Mandelbrot. See definition:   (link to different page)

I understand that the equations to generate them have real and imaginary parts (that blew me away in college to find out that some math is real and some is imaginary.  (Explains why I had trouble with Differential Equations).
