Page Two:
More Good Stuff
Harmony Central - all kinds of midi and music stuff.
The Computer Museum - a walk down Random Access Memory
lane, with pictures and history on computers, video games, arcades, and calculators.
On Computers With
Gina Smith - a call in show, also available on the internet
with video, that answers your computing questions.
The
Emulator Page - largely Power Mac oriented, has emulation
software for many arcade games, calculators, and most of the popular computers, including
the Atari series. Windows users will find many useful links. Much software is unavailable
for newer computers. Emulation fills the need.
The Singer Home Page - in memory of Elias Howe, who in 1841, invented the sewing machine.
Midi stuff:
Harmony Central - from the basics of midi for beginners to information and files for experts,
these guys have it all, or have a link to it. Your best first stop.
Norma
Williams Midi Page - Norma produces some of the consistently
best files I've had the pleasure to hear.
The
Karaoke Page - whether you just want to see the lyrics
or sing along, these guys have karaoke files for just about every song. Karaoke files
are standard midi files with lyrics, so you can play them on any midi player, but
you'll need a player that can handle karaoke to see the lyrics.
Betty's
Midi Page - she has some great links to pages that explore
the technical aspects of midi, info on synthesizers, and some good stuff of her own.
MIDI Technical
Fanatic's Brainwashing Center - for those of you who have
to know all the little details, this is the place. I've never seen so much detail
in one place, although his obnoxious FAQ clearly shows how little he really knows
about other stuff.
Apple
- even if you're using Windows, Apple has something for you. Quicktime (and its Movie
Player) handle midi and karaoke files (on the Mac; I'm not sure what the Windows
side does).
Some favorite midis:
Just Like That - ABBA - the previously unreleased track.
Lay All Your Love On Me
- ABBA
That's Me - ABBA
SOS - ABBA
- one of their big hits
Theme from The Avengers - from the British series. Sure to bring back memories.
Captain of Her Heart - Double - a familiar song to KKSF listeners.
Cut The Cake - Average White Band - a great oldie, and a great midi.
Can't Go For That - Hall &
Oates - a clear example of their musical talents.
Misty
- the Errol Garner version, I think. Sounds great if your synth has a great muted
trumpet.
Achy Breaky Song - Wierd Al Yankovich - if you've had too much of Billy Ray Cirrus's Achy Breaky heart, this
karaoke parody is for you.
FM - Steely Dan
- karaoke - a great song from a minor movie and a great group.
Black Friday - Steely Dan - another great song.
Moonlighting - Al Jarreau - karaoke - for those who miss the series, and Maddie and Daves antics.
Ride Like The Wind - Christopher
Cross - karaoke
Popcorn - Hot Butter - a tune that most people seem to know, but couldn't name.
Take Five - Dave Brubeck - another famous tune.
Watermark - Enya - the notes say that Enya herself created this midi, and I wouldn't be
surprised - it's that good.
Me - What the heck.
Some stuff about me.
Girlfriend Gallery
- a tribute to all the women I've loved.
