"These bayou fiddles vibrate between
their own individual beauty and
the essence of the Cajun sound."

The Viator Family builds their instruments using the old Creole method they call "tate avek simagri."  Throughout the carving process, each tonally matched piece is hand-shaped and tuned. This method insures a responsive instrument with a rich, resonant, and balanced tone.
VIOLINS

Louisiana folklore has inspired the unique carvings on the head of each violin: there are birds, mysterious women, mermaids, hoodoo skulls, and rams.  Thus, when one is completed, it is given a Louisiana French name rather than a serial number.  Finally, exotic accessory woods and violin-body stains are carefully chosen and coordinated in order to complement each instrument's character.  The colors used most often for the violin body are charcoal, burnt sienna, chocolate, wine, cherry red, deep forest green, and midnight blue.

VIOLAS

Violas are available with the carvings and colors listed above.  They can also be ordered with traditional scrolls and colors.
