The following sections briefly summarize the services we provide at our clinic in the
Neurology and Sleep Medicine specialty areas.
A. Neurology Specialty Areas
Seizure/Epilepsy
Seizure is chronic disorder with significant psychosocial impact in our life. However, it
is a manageable disease and significant of number of people are seizure-free and
have normal life. Seizures and spells need to be diagnosed correctly to better treat
the underlying condition. We have the expertise to provide diagnosis and management
including newer therapy management such as vagal nerve stimulator. We provide
services for regular EEG and 24 hr continuous EEG.
Dementia
Cognitive disorders and memory loss are very common presenting problems in the
elderly population. Not all the time, memory loss means Alzheimer dementia although
it is one the most prevalent neurological disorders among the elderly above the age of
65.There are various causes for memory problems. Our office provides detailed
evaluation and management of all the cognitive disorders.
Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a most common neurological disorder in the younger
population. Mainly present as a stroke like symptoms and visual problems. There are
other demyelinating disorders like MS. We provide correct diagnosis, follow-up care
and long-term management.
Evaluation of Back pain and Neck pain
There are many reasons for neck pain and back pain such as pinch nerve
(Radiculopathy) and myofacial pain. We provide appropriate diagnostic testing and
medical management.
Neuropathy and muscles disorders and their management
Various neuropathy symptoms such as numbness, tingling, pain and myopathy (such
as muscle weakness) are appropriately evaluated, tested and managed in our office.
We perform Electromyography (EMG) services at our office.
Parkinson’s disease
Parkinson’s disease and other Parkinson’s plus syndrome are evaluated and treated.
Not all tremors (shaking) are the result of Parkinson’s disease. There are other
diseases that mimic Parkinson’s disease. For example, benign essential tremor or
central tremor is a benign disease often times confused with Parkinson’s disease.
Detailed evaluation and insight into the various disorders are needed to correctly
identify and treat these diseases appropriately.
Botox treatment
We provide Botox treatment for spasticity and other movement disorders such as
torticollis and other dystonias.
Stroke evaluation and management
Stroke is a very common neurological disorder, 2/10 of the people in certain age group
suffer from stroke due to various health problems/conditions. We provide in-hospital
care and management of various types of strokes. New treatment such as TPA is
available for certain types of strokes provided the patients were seen in the ER within 3
hours of the onset of stroke. We provide patient education regarding disease
modifying risk factors, stroke signs and symptoms and their early identification in our
office.
Migraine and various head pain identification and their management
Migraine treatment profile is expanding as our knowledge and research on this subject
gain significant progress. Various treatment options are available now. Yet, for some
type of Migraines or Migraines with other associated diseases, certain medications are
contra-indicated. We provide excellent service in the management of Migraine and
other related head pain disorders.
B. Sleep Medicine Specialty Area
Sleep disorders
Sleep is very important aspect of our life. More than 10-20% of our population suffers
from some kind of sleep problem either due to excessive sleepiness or insomnia.
Importance of sleep cannot be explained in few sentences. Studies have shown that
automobile accidents rate due to sleepiness is much more higher than due to alcohol
related accidents. Sleep disorder not only causes sleepiness or insomnia it also
causes other symptoms such as memory problem, early morning headaches,
fatigue, mood changes, depression, cardiac irregularities, high blood pressure.
Sleep disorders such as insomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness, snoring, seizures,
narcolepsy, parasomnia, rest-less leg syndrome, sleep apnea, and sleep disorders in
children are being evaluated and treated. Our sleep studies are performed in a
well-controlled state-of-the-art laboratory. We provide sleep care for all ages of the
population.
