Lights pinpoint the constellations.  The Grand Staircase is a reminder of the glory that was once the railroad.   Grand Central originally served as the principle transcontinental station for the major railways.

The station now serves only as a suburban commuter terminal. Often referred to as a station, The Grand Central of today is technically a terminal. A station represents one stop on the line whereas a terminal has tracks that terminate the line with "end-stubs."

In 1997, a 175 million-dollar restoration project was completed.  Years of grime were removed from the ceilings and stairs, and the station was restored to its original beauty.  Many new shops and eateries have since opened.

The Grand Central Oyster Bar, with its yellow Guastavino tiles, is a popular destination for hungry travelers.  There is also a food court with many different types of food and musicians of all kinds perform at various places around the station.
