2000-2002

VP, Director - Citicapital Risk Management & Control (2001-2002)

Selected to establish and direct an Internal Control organization for the Citicapital Business - the second largest U.S. based Commercial Finance Company ($35BN in Assets / $1.5BN in revenues). Directed three Senior Vice Presidents in the management of approximately 120 professionals. Significant accomplishments included:

  • Developed and implemented consistent internal control standards across four individual and geographically dispersed commercial finance organizations (to include the US, Canada & Europe) acquired by Citigroup since May 2001.
  • Designed and embedded a comprehensive self-assessment program across all business lines.
  • Created standard risk assessments, weekly metrics and core tracking processes to manage operational risk & strengthen Senior Management's assurances for compliance with key internal control and corporate governance standards.

VP, Director - Global Management Internal Control (2000-2001)

Created and led a Global Management Internal Control Organization responsible for driving audit, control and compliance standards for 18,000 Operations & Technology professionals worldwide. Scope of responsibility covered all Salomon Smith Barney Trade Support (640,000 trades per day / $620BN Securities Settlements per day / $4.6 Trillion in assets under custody) and Citigroup Global Markets ($66BN in Derivatives activities per day / $770BN in funds transfer transactions per day) activities and functions. Directed four Senior Vice Presidents in the management of 140 professionals in all aspects of broker dealer account reconciliation, registration/licensing and internal control. Key accomplishments included:
  • Achieved a 92% decrease in Unsatisfactory Audit Report ratings issued over a fifteen-month period through the development & implementation of a comprehensive control assessment program in support of Operational Risk and Regulatory Requirements across all Corporate and Investment Bank Operations & Technology functions.
  • Created consistent dialogue and enhanced relationships with internal audit and critical external regulatory agencies, including the OCC, Federal Reserve, Securities & Exchange Commission and the New York Stock Exchange.
  • Achieved significant risk reduction including the satisfactory resolution of over $66BN in aged (3+ years old) reconciling items with total write-offs taken of < 1%.
  • Directed several reconciliation & control backlog activities associated with various acquisitions, organizational consolidations and systems conversions.

CITIGROUP - Global Markets, New York, NY

1996-2000

Vice President, Division Head - Corporate Finance

Global responsibility for directing approximately 250 professionals ($21MM annual budget) to provide Operations and Technology support for all Global Markets Corporate Finance Businesses (Lease Finance, Loan Syndication's, Sales & Trading, Portfolio Lending, Project Finance, Structured Finance and Real Estate Finance).

  • Selected to lead (June 1998) Citigroup merger transition team for the Global Loan Product. Defined, identified and implemented required Business infrastructure and appropriate operational processes to insure proper alignment of the Firm's $315BN Global Syndicated Loan Portfolio with Salomon Smith Barney's Fixed Income Business.
  • Enhanced annual fee income and servicing related revenues by $4MM related to the Global Loan and Asset Based Finance Businesses through development of new processes, key tracking metrics and critical controls.
  • Reduced annual operating expenses by over $12MM (or 38%) over a two-year period through identification and sharing of best practices, standardization of global processes, selected site consolidation, and enhancement of critical support systems. Led continuous improvement efforts & strengthened quality through defect and cycle time reduction.
  • Successfully directed all European Monetary Union (EMU) and Year 2000 (Y2K) Global Markets Corporate Finance readiness activities. Directed Benchmarking and Total Quality Management programs across Global Markets.

CITICORP - North American Global Finance, New York, NY

1993-1996

VP, Operations Director - Relationship Support, Customer Service & Research

  • Achieved a $3MM (20%) annual cost reduction for Global Loan Operations through consolidation of core support functions across seven cities into a single geography. Directed over 200 professionals in providing core Operations support (i.e. Customer Service, Credit Administration, Research, and General Business Management) to Relationship and Product Management across Global Finance.
  • Generated over $25MM in net new business annual annuity revenues through the implementation of a formal transaction services cross-selling program for all Customer Service and Relationship Associate staff.
  • Responsible for the global implementation of a comprehensive Bank-Wide sales and marketing management system. Partnered with Senior Marketing executives, Technology Development, Operations and external vendors to develop functional requirements, test, and deploy a comprehensive Sales and Marketing toolset.

CITICORP - North American Investment Bank, New York, NY

1987-1993

VP, Channel Head - Bank Loan Syndication/Finance Operations (1990 - 1993)

  • Managed over 120 employees in all aspects of Syndicated Loan Operations; responsible for increasing annual agency fee revenue over a three year period by 100% (from $5MM to $10MM) while concurrently reducing annual operating expenses by nearly $2.8MM (35%), through the implementation of end-to-end Agency unit costing methodologies, pricing models and associated processes / control improvements across North America.

VP, Channel Manager - Mortgage Finance Operations (1987 - 1990)

  • Progressed from Accounting Supervisor to Channel Manager of up to 90 individuals in support of all Financial Accounting, Agency MBS, Trader Support, Risk Management, Underwriting and Master Servicing activities for Citicorp's Mortgage Backed Securities, Whole Loan, Private Placement, Citimae loan conduit, and CMO businesses.
