Buster has lived with me for almost 10 years (That makes him about 12 years
old!). He tips the scales at 115 (down from 130) pounds. Still, he can only be
called a BIG dog.
I found him at the humane society where he stood out from the rest because he
didn't bark. In fact, I've heard him bark only 6 times in the first 2 years I've
had him and never since!
Buster is a mixed-breed that I
believe is part Gordon's Setter (because of his black coat and golden paws
paint job) and probably a sight hound,(Saluki?) Saluki's are
distinguished by their fuzzy paws. Saluki's are used by Bedouin Arabs to
hunt small game in conjunction with birds. The fuzzy paws help the
dogs cope with the harsh terain. Buster's paws are so fuzzy it looks like
he's wearing big fuzzy slippers.
Arthritis has slowed
Buster down, to a great degree. He now takes a daily dose of glucosamine/chondroitin
and that seems to help. Nutro's Large-Breed Senior dog food also seems to
have made a big difference.

Buster's
last day was June 13, 2005. At the end he was no longer able to get
up and move around. We had enough time so that his friends from the
neighborhood were able to visit him and say goodbye. He passed away
quietly at
home in his own bed.
