SNOWSHOES
The SnowshoeCat is named for its characteristic white "shoes" combining the points of a Siamese and the white spotting of the a bi-color American Shorthair. The SnowshoeCat has a less 'extreme' look than the modern Siamese, it has a semi-foreign body type and a modified wedge shaped head.
Snowshoe Cats are affectionate pets that tend to focus on one family member. They are intensely loyal and playful.

The Snowshoe's origin has been traced to Dorothy Hinds-Dagherty of PA. The caprious white spotting factor showed up on one of her Siamese and she liked the look. She decided to keep one of the strongly marked cats and consider it a new breed. The "new breed" was all but lost until Vikki Oander and Jim Hoffman came along. They began the serious campaign to support and develope the Snowshoe breed.
Many worked very hard in getting the Snowshoe accepted in major registries. If I tried to name the individuals I am afraid of leaving out someone and hurting their feelings. So, just let me say thank you to all the contributed.
The Snowshoe was accepted for championship in TICA in the 1990's.

My introduction to the Snowshoe breed was courtesy of Hellen Pounds and her wonderful Snoopy Cattery. She is and has been my mentor and friend since I found the wonderful world of pedigreed cats.
