This section is devoted to the classic R&B groups that stand out as innovators and true exponents of this musical style.  As the music evolved in the early 1950's, groups developed styles representative of the areas where they lived in the United States. R&B fans today still refer to the "Chicago" sound or the "West Coast" sound.
