New Haven, a little History . . .
The community of New Haven paid $626 in 1963 for fire protection from neighboring towns. The cost rose to $3100 in 1966. These rising costs initiated the formation of the New Haven Fire Department in May 1967.
Julie Larrow was elected the department's first Fire Chief. Allen Noble was elected First Assistant Chief, and Harold Danyow 2nd Assistant Chief.
The department soon purchased a 1949 International Pumper for $6000 and a 1958 Brockway 1800 gallon tanker for $2000. The trucks were housed in Ellen Smith's garage for the first winter. In March 1968, the townspeople voted $5000 for the construction of a fire station. The building was started in August, with the trucks moving in on October 30, 1968.
IN 1973, the department acquired a new 1000 gpm pumper from Middlesex Fire Equipment. The addition of a mini-pumper and 1000' of 4" hose in 1980, caused the department to out grow it's station. Two new bays and a meeting room were added through the support of the townspeople.
New Haven Fire Department joined the ACFA in July 1968.
