The wiggler
The Wiggler
I have started a couple of new engines and I just finished the wiggler.
Mr. Goodfellow‘s website has several small engine plans available and the wiggler is one of
them. I have wanted to build this little engine for some time and I finally had the
chance to build it.
There is not much to say other than this is a great little project! I built this in a week spending a few minuets each night working on a part or two. My brother’s birthday was fast approaching and I noticed when he saw the Radial five being built he really like it. So I was thinking of a gift to give and I thought about knocking out a little engine. I remembered Mr. Goodfellows site had a nice simple engine and I checked it out and got started.
You will notice mine doesn’t look quite like his, but I just wanted something a little different. The only thing that was difficult was drilling the holes in the stand that had to intersect with the one hole in the cylinder. Mr. Goodfellow recommends a way to accomplish this, but I just drawled it up in a cad package and had it done in a few minuets. This is a good project for someone that wants to build their first little engine. It was easy and I built it entirely out of scrap. Also if I remember correctly, this little engine can be built just on a lathe if you have a 4-jaw chuck. Having a mill is nice, but I don’t think there was one thing that couldn’t be made on a lathe.  I hope you enjoy the videos, Dean!
