The 8005x2 Home-brew Rig
the 8005x2 rig

Made in America...
Here is my latest project. It's on the air now. It's a home-brew transmitter built in the late 40's or early 50's. I don't have any history on it's construction or the builder. Whoever built it knew what he was doing! It's a work of art--Liz says beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Hi Hi.
It runs a pair of 8005's in push pull as finals, driven by an 807, a 6L6 as a buffer between the 6V6 crystal oscillator and the 807 driver. The modulator is a pair of 811a's with a home-brew speech amp. It easily does full legal limit on AM. It even has VOX!. It's really something to be proud of. To change bands you swap in another set of coils for the appropriate band. Currently I only have a set of 75 meter coils and I hope to have a set for 40 meters very soon. If anyone has any coils let me know. These are B & W coils.
here is a shot of the back
Here is a shot of the back of the transmitter. I will post more and better pictures as time goes by. I have more work to do yet. I need to recap the mod deck and speech amp and maybe solid-state the modulator and PA power supplies( but the 866 and 866jr's sure glow pretty!). Every deck and stage has it's own supply. Lots of transformers! I am making a schematic as I go through each stage. I will post more info as I learn it, and if anyone knows any history about this transmitter please share it with me.
Here are the 75 meter coils. There are 2 coils like the one on the left.
It was a fun project to get on the air. I had to rebuild the grid and screen supplies for the 807's and the grid supply on the 8005's. It ran selenium rectifiers. I replaced them with solid state. It runs full legal limit on AM and will do 1200 watts on CW. I wish I had more info in the construction and the builder. Everything is pretty straight forward in design so repairing it hasn't been too tough.
Keep checking back for updates...
