South Bay Poly Essay #128 (October 2005)

“Nitty-Gritty Living Together Things”

There are lots of things that can drive you crazy after a bit of living with someone, even if you love them very much. We began discussing some of these things last month (in discussing “hierarchical relationship – or not”) and we’ll continue on this thought-stream at our October meeting. If you’ve never lived with a lover before, you might be surprised at how annoying some of these can be. They include (but are not limited to) these familiar or less-familiar issues:

Which way do you roll up the toothpaste tube?

Which way do you install the toilet paper on the roller?

Do you sleep with your bedroom windows open or shut?

Do you let people talk to you while you’re watching TV?

How do you divide up the housework?

In a poly family, what are your sleeping arrangements? (Always a popular topic on TV talk shows!)

Do you share your finances? How?

If you have children, how do you divide up the responsibilities for caring for them?

Does every person get a room of their own? If not, how does everyone get their privacy?

These are just a few of the issues that I’m sure will surface at our October meeting. Come join the fun!
