Flash: Swift Vengeance!
By: Joe Grunenwald
Chapter III: Who's afraid of the big bad Flash?
Officer Harvey Bullock pulled into a parking spot outside of the Gotham City Police Headquarters. Bruce Wayne sat beside him, and in the backseat were two suspects that were being brought in for questioning concerning a one-car accident that occurred in an alley across the street from Gotham City Centennial Park. One of the perps was Louie 'Trick Shot' Malone, a hitman hired by Carmine 'The Roman' Falcone to kill Bruce Wayne. Obviously, the attempt failed.
Bullock muscled the quivering man into the offices of the Gotham City Police. " 'Ey Renee, you wanna question this guy? He was in a car accident and we wanna find out how it happened."
"No problem, Harv." The younger woman took Malone into 'The Box' for questioning. Wayne and Bullock stood on the other side of a two-way mirror looking into 'The Box.' Bruce turned to the larger man. "I still don't understand why he thought he had killed me. I've never seen that man before in my life."
"It's like you said yourself Wayne, drugs do things to your mind. But c'mon, you can't tell me you never experimented with chemicals before, eh?" Bullock gave Bruce a hard nudge with his right arm.
Bruce laughed. He had indeed experimented with chemicals. After all, he was a forensic scientist with the GCPD.
The two men turned their attention to the action inside the small questioning room they called 'The Box.' Bullock knew the kind of interrogator Renee Montoya was. She was firm, but also not too mean. She got answers. Malone sat on the far side of a long table. Montoya paced around the room. She spoke.
"So....Louie....what exactly happened? Your car was totaled, so I've been told. How'd it happen?"
Louie responded nervously. "I was drivin' along, right? Well, I wasn't drivin', my buddy was. Anyway, we wuz doing about 25 Miles An Hour, dat's the speed limit, right? When all of the sudden, we wuz forced backwards into the alley and up against the wall. Before I knew what wuz goin' on, this big guy came outta nowhere. He pulled me through the windshield, and he slammed me against da wall, ok? Den he took his hand, and he started movin' it real fast, and inchin' it closer to my head, right? Den I passed out."
Bullock looked at Bruce. " 'Forced into the alley'? Pulled through the windshield? Then how come the windshield was intact when we got there?"
"I don't know. This guy sounds crazy to me."
Bruce knew how it was done. Using his speed powers, he had created small whirlwinds with his arms, pushing the car backwards even when it was in the 'drive' gear. When he had pulled Malone out of the car, Bruce had been vibrating his arm and Malone's body, which left the windshield in one piece.
Montoya eyed the scared little man in the questioning chair. "What did this 'big guy' look like, Louie?"
Malone gulped heavily. "He was tall, an' I don't mean like six foot tall, I mean he was TALL. He had a black mask, wit' a little silver wing-type thing on either side of 'is head where his ear woulda been. He had on black gloves. Dat's all I saw of him before I passed out. He appeared outta nowhere. Whatever he was, he wasn't human, I'll tell ya dat much."
Montoya turned and left the room. She entered the room where Bullock and Wayne were seated. "Well guys, you heard him, what do you think?"
Bruce spoke up. "I can run a drug test on him, see if he's on anything. From his story, he sounds like he's on everything."
Bullock and Montoya agreed with Bruce, and the three of them departed their separate ways. Bruce sent for a urine sample from Malone which was to be tested for drugs. Bruce knew that, if the test came out negative for drugs, he would have to falsify the data to cover up the Flash's tracks. Bruce also knew that no one would care if he did falsify the results or not. Gotham was knee-deep in bad cops. Bruce knew that Harvey Bullock and Renee Montoya were a few of the good ones.

Bruce packed up his briefcase and headed out the door of his office. His boss, Captain Jordan, was surprised to see him come out of his office. "Leaving early tonight Wayne? No big murder mysteries to crack before the weekend?"
Bruce forced a slight chuckle. "Not tonight, Hal. I've got to get home to pack before I go out with Selina tonight. We're going to see my brother this weekend. I'm really looking forward to it, I haven't seen him in about a year or so."
"Have a good time. Be sure to leave your microscope here while you're gone." Captain Jordan went back into his office.

11:37 PM
Carmine 'The Roman' Falcone sat at a large table. Alone. He was furious, but kept it hidden well. He reached down to the phone on the table in front of him. He picked it up and dialed.
"Hey Leo? .... Yeah, it's Carmine. .... You know Louie Malone? ..... Yeah, that old bum. Anyway, I hired him to do a job for me and he failed at it. He's in jail as we speak. I need you to get rid of him for me. ...... Within the week? Beautiful. Thank you."
Falcone hung up the phone and sighed. 'It's so hard to find good help these days,' he thought to himself.
Anthony Falcone entered the room. "Father, I had hoped to see you tonight."
The boy gave his father a hug. "What is it, m'boy?"
The lad smiled. "I think I know how to get rid of Bruce Wayne for you."
