William A. Moore


Wildlife, ancient cultures and the old west are subjects close to the heart of Nevada artist William A. Moore. After a career encompassing twenty-two years as a successful designer and commercial artist, Moore has turned to fine arts for the past twenty years. The recipient of many awards, he is dedicated to realism, detail and accuracy. Moore's work has been featured on several Nevada television programs and in numerous national magazines, including ShotGun Sports, Nevada Magazine, Contemporary Western Artists and featured in Southwest Art Magazine. His paintings are in collections worldwide and in several national museums. Two-time Ducks Unlimited "Artist of the Year" for Nevada. Moore's work was also chosen for the 1991 Idaho Upland Game Stamp and Idaho's 1994-95 Duck Stamp.  



"Lovelock Cave Decoys" view 117k

In 1924, a prehistoric limestone cave was excavated in Northern Nevada which uncovered a bundle of eleven Canvasback Duck decoys made of tule reeds. They have been carbon dated at over 2,000 years old. This painting depicts the decoys as they were found. Behind them is the Humboldt Mountain Range and the limestone outcropping that contains the Lovelock Cave. Original painting in collection of Favell Museum, Klamath Falls, Oregon.  s/n ltd. ed. of 600 prints, low inventory. $100.


The Basketmaker culture was the first to occupy this cave along the San Juan River tributary in Canyon Del Muerto, Arizona. The Pueblo Indians later built these 3-story cliff dwellings. In the foreground is shown a prehistoric water bottle. Original painting commissioned, private collection.

1994-95 Idaho Duck Stamp Print. A pair of Harlequin ducks flying over the Little North Fork of the Clearwater River. Artist proof edition of 50. Image size 6 1/2x9" on 12x14" stock. $150               


This prehistoric site, called "White House" is located in Canyon de Chelly, Arizona. Abandoned by Basketmaker I, II and III, ancient Pueblo Indians later built the stone dwelling in this giant cliff shelter. Original painting commissioned, private collection.

"Before the Bow" view 90k

The atlatl or throwing stick pre-dated the bow. This specimen with pouch of dart points was unearthed in 1960-61 from a tufa shaft cave (the formation in middle of the picture) and dated at 8,000+ years. Winnemucca Dry Lake, Nevada. Original Commissioned, private collection.
