War Surplus

A Soldier's Humor

Hi!

My name's Preston Ransone. I'm a retired Lieutenant Colonel and former Green Beret. If your looking for military humor, I think I've got some stories you might like.   The first one's from Vietnam, and it's called: At the Drop of an Elephant (Vietnam)

That story is from a collection of stories I've written and recorded about the military called "War Surplus, A Soldier's Humor, Part One". Here's a review of the audio production from Booklist, Jan 15, 1993:

"Both touchingly innocent and ‘earthy and raw', this saga of a young recruit's first years in the army will have special appeal for veterans. These frank, well-read stories about life in the military are based on the experiences of their author and narrator, Preston Ransone, who rose from private to lieutenant colonel during his 31 years in the army.

"Ransone is a good storyteller, both in his writing and in the power and versatility of his narration. The recording is clear and crisp. ...the sometimes coarse language will not appeal to all...Adult." Barbara Diltz-Siler.

Here's the opening story from the "War Surplus" Collection:  Part One

So much for humor. Ready for some action adventure? Here's a sample of a Special Forces (Green Beret) story.  Second Team
