(WELCOME in
Irish)
It was from the western foothills of Mount
Brandon, on the Dingle Peninsula, County Kerry Ireland, that my famine era
ancestors emigrated.
It is my hope that in sharing
the information found on these pages, others who are searching Dingle, will
find some help in their journey
~back to their own
ones.

The Irish Language ~ the way it's spoken
in the western part of the Dingle Peninsula
If you have ancestors from Dingle then they
probably spoke Irish as their primary language, just as they do in the West
Kerry Gaeltacht area of the Dingle Peninsula to this day. (Mumhan is
the Munster dialect of Irish Gaelic). When I found out my living Dingle relatives
spoke Irish at home, I wanted to learn a bit of it myself, and researched
how I might do that. So I have a suggestion for you. If you'd like to hear
Irish *as they speak it in Dingle* there's some Irish language CD's that
are kinda fun too!
Fios Feasa is a small company right on the Dingle Peninsula, and have among
other things an interactive multimedia CD-ROM
called: IRISH PROVERBS - 501 Irish Proverbs,
Sayings, Blessings, Curses, etc. It's a tool for learning Irish ... especially
good I think, because it's things they say everyday in Chorca Dhuibhne (thats
Dingle Peninsula in Irish). Here is what Fios Feasa told me about it;
"The Irish proverbs CD will help anyone learn
the language by listening to native speakers saying native
things."

Oh won't you stay, stay awhile
With your own ones.
Don't ever stray, stray so far
From your own ones.
This old world is so cold.
Don't care nothin' for your soul
You share with your own ones.
Don't rush away, rush away
From your own ones.
Just one more day, one more day
With your own ones.
For the world is so cold.
Don't care nothin' for your soul
You share with your own ones.
Bridge:
There's a stranger and he's
Standing at your door.
May be your best friend
Might be your brother,
You may never know.
I'm going back, going back
To my own ones.
Back to talk, talk awhile
With my own ones.
For the world is so cold.
Don't care nothing for your soul
You share with your own ones.
(THIS NEXT STANZA ADDED BY
WATERLILYS; HOPE VAN DOESN'T MIND!)
I'm searching back, searching back
For my own ones
Back to know, know from where
Came my old ones
For the world is so cold.
Don't care nothing for your soul
So share with your own ones.
Dedicated to all those who
helped me ~back to my own ones,
