Is the King James Version of the Bible the most accurate translation?

March 10, 1999 -- After studying a lot of different translations and reading about different bibles, it still becomes one to read and know that the KJV is just as much able to be understood and that it is the best translation.

March 10, 1999 -- I am not a scholar, however, from my studies I do not believe it is the most acurate translation. I prefer the American Standard in terms of acuracy.

March 14, 1999 -- The Textus Receptus is based on several thousand manuscripts. Although they may not be as old as the ones used for the Westcott-Hort version, most are faithful copies of older manuscripts. "...hardly any have been copied from any of the rest. On the contrary, they are discovered to differ among themselves in countless unimportant particulars; and every here and there single copies exhibit idiosyncrasies which are altogether startling and extraordinary. There has therefore domonstrably been no collusion--no assimilation to an arbitrary standard,--no wholesalefraud. It is certain that every one of them represents a MS., or a dedigree of MSS., older than itself; and it is but fair to suppose that it exercises such representation with tolerable accuracy." (Burgon, THE TRADITIONAL TEXT, pp. 46-7) Contrast this with the Westcott-Hort text which is often based on only one or two manuscripts which though both old, disagree with each other in IMPORTANT areas making it clear that they are not good manuscripts. Even in the first century, there were people who were quite willing to rewrite scripture to suit their own doctrine. Why else would the warnings at the end of Rev. and elsewhere be necessecary. There is every reason to believe that the manuscripts upon which Westcott-Hort are based are of this sort. The KJV is the only English translation which is faithful to the original text.
