11' TNT

--4/30/01--
Got a cheap digital camera, so here are some pics of the boat with the new engine.
I also made the trailer pictured (last year), steel tubing with wheel barrow wheels.

Ouch, look what spending
a few winters outside does!

NEW STUFF to go with the engine:
new prop, got some old controls and re-finished,
carb work, and a fin to go on the bottom!

(old pics)

=Update 4/21/01=
Took it out for a spin last weekend. It shoots out of the hole really fast with the prop it has. I'm getting another prop with different pitch and diameter for more top speed. I found a restrictor plate in the carb. Asked around, changing this and what would be the equivalent of a jet will deffinatly add hp. The other engine Evinrude used for the block I have is the 35 horse, but this has a slightly different compression ratio. Took out the restrictor plate in the carb and ordered a new jet, the old one was 49/1000", the new one is 59/1000". I picked up a new prop yesterday. Also recieved the aluminum "sharks fin" for the bottom, this will make turning real fun. I'm almost done refinishing the old set of controls I had thrown in with the engine, and I put a slight polish on the fin and am clearcoating it. I'm taking it out next weekend, hopefully it will be scary enough for me. Oh yeah, major bummer, storing the boat outside for the last 2 or 3 winters has taken it's toll. It needs a thourough refinishing. The mahoginy front deck with clearcote may not be able to have another clearcote b/c of the condition it is in. If I can't save it I was thinking of doing all red boat, with two wide white stripes going down the middle of the boat.
Have any ideas for a paint scheme?email me.

= UPDATE 4/5/01 =
Just placed downpayment on an outboard. A "big block" 25 horse evinrude, with controls (and tiller), and new gas tank.
The guy is short shafting it for me, it was recently overbored and rebuilt. I am going to put a speed prop on it, hopefully testing it on my boat easter weekend. I got a great deal on the engine. It pays to be nice to people, then they are nice to you :-)
Oh yeah, the guy built an electric boat, guess how fast it goes......70 mph, has a motor from a forklift.

I built this 11' Glen-L TNT when I was 14. It was a great project and taught me a lot. Built everything from scratch, including the steering system (2nd row left pic shows). I got the plans, lumber, epoxy, screws, nails, paint, etc. for my birthday. I bought a rebuilt 81 (or so) Evinrude 15 horse. This summer ('01) I want to repower it with a 25-30hp, equipped with a speed prop. I will also completely refinish the paint, keeping the same color scheme. Along with adding deeper skags on the bottom and a fin for better cornering. Right now it slides around corners like an unlimited hydro, it bites in pretty good if you have two full sized adults in it. Email me with any questions, or check out http://www.glen-l.com, I bought my plans through them. They sell hundreds of different plans ranging from 6' to 50' power, sail, air powered, and human powered boats.
